Cultivating a Teaching Philosophy throughout Your Career

Facilitator: Drs. Amalia Daché and Damani White-Lewis, Education
Convener: Elizabeth Dunens, CETLI Graduate Fellow, Education

Whether you’re on the job market, finishing the CETLI Certificate, or (down the line) applying for tenure, at some point you’ll get asked about your philosophy of teaching. Regardless of the number of classes you’ve taught, it’s possible to thoughtfully reflect on and communicate your values, goals, and approach as an educator. In this session, Assistant Professor Damani White-Lewis and Associate Professor Amalia Daché will share their experiences and insights on what cultivating a philosophy of teaching looks like in practice, from early career to post-tenure. Following conversation with Dr. Daché and Dr. White-Lewis, participants will engage in a discussion activity to reflect on and share their own teaching philosophies.

All graduate students are welcome. This event grows out of concerns in the Education department and so may be most useful to students in related fields.

Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate.
