What does it mean to create a meaningful semester-long project? What are the pros and cons of these projects, and what can your students learn from them? How do you manage these projects over the course of the semester, and how are they best evaluated? This workshop will address these questions and more as we tackle the practical issues and stakes involved in developing semester-long projects for undergraduate courses. We will discuss how you can conceive and carry out these projects, with an emphasis on the idea of scaffolding, or using smaller assignments and activities throughout the semester to help students systematically develop their projects. Participants will leave this session with a greater understanding of how to successfully design, execute, and evaluate meaningful semester-long projects, as well as an idea of how such projects can be productively integrated with other course content and materials.
