Designing for Equity and Engagement in Online Teaching

Facilitator: Kristina Lewis, CETLI Graduate Fellow, Education
Convener: Professor Amy Stornaiuolo, Education

This interactive workshop responds to the current moment, as educators the world over are reimagining their pedagogies for online teaching and learning. Of particular concern right now are the ways that online classes can default to delivery models for instruction and exacerbate inequities for some of the most vulnerable students. This workshop is intended to help current and future educators consider some of the most pressing issues in designing classroom contexts for equity and engagement. The workshop will begin with a brief presentation of a four-part heuristic to help educators in their course design followed by an interactive discussion to imagine how to put these ideals into practice and anticipate challenges.

Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate. This event grows out of concerns in the Education department and so may be most useful to students in related fields.
