Effective Discussions in the Humanities & Qualitative Social Sciences

Convener: Anna Todd, CETLI Graduate Fellow, History

As graduate educators, how do we facilitate effective discussions in the classroom? In this workshop, we will explore a variety of discussion techniques that TA’s can add to their teaching toolboxes to encourage student success and participation. We will discuss the importance of utilizing a variety of approaches, matching classroom activities to student strengths and communication styles, and creating respectful spaces of discussion and collaboration. This workshop is intended as a refresher of principles covered in TA training and will be most useful to graduate students of all levels in the Humanities and Qualitative Social Sciences.

Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate.
