Effective Lecturing

Facilitator: Stacey Bevan, CETLI Graduate Fellow, Nursing

If you’re asked to guest lecture, fill in for a professor or plan a recitation review – it can be hard to know where to start! An engaging and well-designed lecture can bring a topic to life for students by facilitating a new perspective, introducing a novel application, or drawing out a key theme of the course. In this workshop, we will overview practical tips to prepare a lecture, strategies to feel more confident when presenting and how to make the content your own while meeting course needs. We’ll also talk about active learning strategies you may consider in a lecture style format and how to make your content accessible before, during and after class. Come prepared for a hands-on discussion relevant to all disciplines! You’ll leave with best practices and ideas to try the next time you’re behind the podium.

Counts towards the CETLI Teaching Certificate.
