Establishing Relationships with Students: From Office Hours to Lesson Plans

Convener: Elizabeth Bynum, CETLI Graduate Fellow, Music

As teaching assistants or instructors of record, navigating relationships with students can present challenges, especially for first-time teachers. This workshop will provide space to discuss those experiences and will emphasize the importance of reflecting on the various kinds of intellectual and emotional labor that our teaching calls for. Together, we will disuss strategies for forming manageable, ethical, and caring professional relationships with students through our class sessions, office hours, and grading.

Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate. Also counts as a follow-up workshop for SAS participants in TA Training.
