Fright, Flight or Fight: Navigating Racially Stressful Moments While Teaching

Facilitator: Kristina Lewis, CETLI Graduate Fellow, Education
Convener: Professor Howard Stevenson, Education

Often while teaching, educators can sometimes find themselves overwhelmed by an unpredictable racial comment, question, or challenge. It is not uncommon for those unprepared for those moments to freeze. This workshop will focus on understanding how one can regain their focus, access their knowledge and memory, and be able to respond more assertively to racial questions and interactions happening in the classroom.

Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate. This event grows out of concerns in the Education department and so may be most useful to students in related fields.
