Giving Effective Feedback

Convener: Sherelle Ferguson, CETLI Graduate Fellow, Sociology

How do we provide students feedback in a manner that is both efficient and effective? Feedback should be an essential part of the learning process, not just a final evaluation of students’ work. Effective feedback helps students identify what they do not understand, how they pare performing, and how they can improve their future practice. In this workshop we will discuss how to incorporate more opportunities for students to receive and implement feedback. In addition, we will discuss ways to provide both individual and group feedback that is clear and targeted. Throughout we will focus on strategies that help instructors efficiently assess and comment on students’ work.

Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate. Also counts as a follow-up workshop for SAS participants in TA Training.
