In this workshop we will explore what possibilities are made available when we radically reconsider the classroom as a productive setting for the navigation of “hard feelings” and “hard moments.” Turning to the issues of teaching difficult material and of facilitating difficult responses/ conversations, we will consider some of the following questions: how does difficulty manifest in the classroom? How can we tend to the ways in which the experience of difficulty shifts from person to person? What does it mean to really make space for difficulty and emotionality in the classroom?

Open to Penn graduate students.

All graduate students are welcome. This event grows out of concerns in the History of Art department and so may be most useful to students in related fields.
