Facilitator: Erika Kontulainen, CETLI Graduate Fellow, German
Convener: Simon Richter, Professor of German; Director of the Penn Summer Abroad in Berlin & Rotterdam

Studies indicate that while traditional study abroad remains popular, there is a complementary trend toward focused, short-term study abroad experiences. Participants of this workshop will learn about various models of summer abroad experience based on Penn’s Summer Study Abroad offerings, including a “tour” of Penn in Berlin & Rotterdam and its associated course, “Comparative Cultures of Sustainability.” Group workshop activities will involve participants in brainstorming possible programs and courses within in their discipline that integrate teaching goals, local resources, and appeal to undergraduate students. All graduate students are welcome. This event grows out of concerns in the German department and so may be most useful to students in related fields. Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate.

A light breakfast will be served.
