Using Canvas Discussion Boards Effectively

Convener: Professors Chris Atwood, EALC & Jill Johnson, Nursing

In this conversation on leading discussions through Canvas discussion boards, faculty will consider strategies to facilitate students thinking and engaging with other students. Participants will consider some of the challenges online discussion boards pose: how to get students to talk with each other and not simply to write mini essays? how to motivate students to engage when the instructor is not physically present? Chris Atwood of East Asian Languages and Civilizations and Jill Johnson of Nursing will talk about how they have used discussion boards effectively in their own classes, and participants will share their own strategies and challenges they face.
