Working with Struggling Students

Facilitator: Tessa Huttenlocher, CETLI Graduate Fellow, Sociology

The pandemic has heightened our awareness of the fact that our students may be facing many challenges, ranging from the routine to the truly unprecedented. What role do graduate student instructors play in supporting struggling students? When and how can graduate student instructors advocate on behalf of their students? What are the resources available for students who are struggling with their workload or who require the support of mental health professionals? In this session, we will address these questions, explore different scenarios, and discuss which tools and resources would be most helpful for our students.

Counts towards the CETLI Teaching Certificate.
