Observations

The Center for Teaching and Learning offers faculty and instructors at Penn the opportunity to be observed by one of our staff members.  These observations are confidential and designed to get faculty thinking and reflecting on their teaching rather than evaluation.

Classroom observations begin with a brief pre-observation meeting.  This allows the instructor to discuss objectives for the session with the CTL staff member.  The instructor may also suggest what he or she would like the observer to focus on. After the class session, the consultant and instructor meet for a conversation which will allow them to think about what worked and what didn't in the class, focusing on the goals and issues that the instructor has set.

Any Penn faculty, instructor or graduate student may be observed by a member of CTL staff.  For more information, contact Bruce Lenthall.

Graduate Students wishing to complete the CTL Teaching Certificate may request an observation by one of CTL's graduate fellows using this form.
