What SAIL Classes Look Like
Because each discipline and each instructor has different things that students learn and do, each SAIL class looks a bit different. In some classes there is some lecture from the instructor but in some the instructor does not lecture at all. In some classes students work on large open-ended projects, while in some other classes students work on short problems on a worksheet much like a problem set. In short, there is no one way to teach a SAIL class. However there are some common themes:
- Instructors create a set of structured activities to help the students gain the content and the skills that they hope to teach.
- Students work in groups on problems set by the instructor.
- The instructor and TAs circulate to coach the students through the problems.
