This reflects the semester that applies for most undergraduate classes. Other schools at Penn may have their own schedules. If you have questions about your teaching semester, check with your school's registrar.

In addition, this list reflects only the major religious holidays listed in Penn's policy on religious holidays.  This link to the Chaplain's list of secular and religious holidays provides a fuller list.

Fall 2022

Week 1: August 29-September 2  

  • No Monday classes this week
  • Tuesday August 30 classes begin

Week 2: September 5-9

  • No Monday classes this week for Labor Day (9/5)

Week 3: September 12-16

  • Tuesday September 13 course selection period ends (students can add and drop classes freely until then.)

Week 4: September 19-23

Week 5: September 26-30 

  • No graded work due on Monday or Tuesday for Rosh Hashanah (from Sunday 9/25 (sunset) to Tuesday 9/27) and expect students to miss class.
  • Be aware that next week you can't assign graded work for Tuesday or Wednesday for Yom Kippur and the week after (Monday October 10) is the end of the drop period.  This week is a good time for you to assign some graded work so students can decide if they need to drop. 

Week 6: October 3-7 

  • No graded work due Tuesday and Wednesday for Yom Kippur (from Tuesday 10/4 to Wednesday 10/5) and expect students to miss class.
  • No classes Thursday and Friday for Fall Break (10/6-10/7)

Week 7: October 10-14

  • Monday is the last day students can drop a class without penalty. (Consider giving students something graded before this deadline (10/10) -- and give yourself or TAs time to grade -- so students with their advisors can make a decision about staying in the class.)

Week 8: October 17-21

Week 9: October 24-28

  • Friday is the last day students can request to take a class pass/fail (10/28)

Week 10: October 31-Nov 4

  • Monday Advanced Registration for Spring 2023 begins (if you are teaching a fall course, post information, a draft syllabus or a prospectus to Courses@Penn by 10/31).

Week 11: November 7-11 

  • Monday is the last day a student can withdraw from a course (they get a w on their transcript but no grade) (11/7)
  • Tuesday is Election Day so no graded work due. (11/8)

Week 12: November 14-18

Week 13: November 21-25

  • Thursday classes meet Tuesday Nov 22 and Friday classes meet Wednesday Nov 23
  • No classes Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving Break (11/24 and 11/25) 

Week 14: November 28-Dec 2

Week 15: December 5-9

  • Last full week of classes (no finals this week)

Week 16: December 12-15

  • Monday 12/12 is the last day of classes  (no finals on that day)

READING DAYS:  Tuesday and Wednesday 12/13-12/14 (no finals here either)

EXAMS:  December 15 - 22

Spring 2023

Week 1: January 9-13

  • Classes begin Wednesday January 11 but Monday classes held that day. 

Week 2: January 16-20 

  • No Monday classes this week for King Day (1/16)

Week 3: January 23-27 

  • Tuesday January 24 course selection period ends (students can add and drop classes freely until then.)

Week 4: January 30-February 3

Week 5: February 6-10

Week 6: February 13-17 

  • Be aware that next Monday (February 20) is the end of the drop period so make sure you have assigned some graded work and given yourself time to grade what you assign so students can decide if they need to drop. 

Week 7: February 20-24

  • Monday (2/20) is the last day students can drop a class without penalty. 

Week 8: February 27-March 3

Spring Break March 6- March 10

Week 9: March 13-17

  • Friday (3/17) is the last day students can request to take a class pass/fail 

Week 10: March 20-24

  • Monday (3/20) Advance Registration for Summer and Fall 2023 begins (if you are teaching a fall course, post information, a draft syllabus or a prospectus to Courses@Penn).

Week 11: March 27-31 

  • Monday (3/27) is the last day a student can withdraw from a course (they get a w on their transcript but no grade) 
  • Advance registration for Summer and Fall continues (through Sunday.)

Week 12: April 3-7

  • Passover is observed from Wednesday April 5 to Friday April 7.  Friday April 7 is also Good Friday (Easter) so no graded work between Wednesday and Friday.  Many students may go home for celebrations as well.

Week 13: April 10-14

Week 14: April 17-April 21

  • Last full week of classes (no finals this week)

Week 15: April 24-28

  • Wednesday (4/26) is the last day of classes

READING DAYS:  April 27-April 30 (no finals here either)

EXAMS:  May 1-9

GRADES DUE: Noon on May 12
